Poppies

Remembrance Day is very important to us because of all the men and women who fought for our country. Just think about all the people who lost loved ones in this war. Sons, fathers, husbands and good friends. So let me tell you what happened. In  1914  a huge war started, the war was called The Great War. A lot of people were hurt or killed in this war. A young soldier in the war wrote a poem. He wrote that poem because red poppies grew where the soldiers were buried. He called that poem Flanders Field.People all around the world loved the poem. The first war ended the 11th of November,1918 at 11:00. This was the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. The war lasted 4 years. The 11th of  November is called Remembrance Day or Armistice Day. After the war ended they started making poppies  and then selling them. All the poppies are made in Scotland at Lady Haig’s poppy factory. They make 5 billion poppies a year.
