June 29, 2017 – Early Release Day

26 Jun

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being.  On Thursday, June 29, 2017 an early release day will take place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day.  These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2017 only.  Students will be dismissed early that day at 11:30 p.m.  Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time.  Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.

5th Annual Move-a-Thon, May 4

13 Apr

On May 4, Brownridge is having it’s annual Move-a-Thon to raise money to send kids with cancer to Camp Oochigeas. Camp Ooch is an opportunity for these children to just be children. This year BOUNCE Entertainment will be getting the students movin’ and groovin’. Our goal is to raise $10,000 so that we can send 5 children to camp. Last year we raised $9278 and to date we have raised close to $35,000.

Students are bringing home pledge envelopes today. The envelopes must be returned by May 3 regardless of whether or not funds are raised. Students receive 1 raffle ticket for every $10.00 donated. Prices include: iTune cards, movie pass for 4, Ms. Mida’s VP for the day, a dozen cake pops by Delectable Dessertz, and many teacher fun prizes. Prizes will be on display in the front foyer showcase by end of next week.

Camp Oochigeas will issue tax receipts upon request. Donation cheques of $25.00 and greater are eligible for a tax receipt. Please make cheques payable to Camp Oochigeas and enclose your home address and email so that the receipts can be sent directly to you. All other donations would be appreciated in cash.

Bicycle Helmet Law

4 Apr

Wearing a bike helmet in Ontario is compulsory for those under the age of 18. That means anyone under the age of 18 who rides any type of bicycle on Ontario roads, such as a tricycle, a bike, a tandem, or in a children’s bicycle seat, must wear an approved bicycle helmet.Apr 15, 2011  helmet in Ontario

With the spring weather we see more students riding their bikes to school. Parents of children under the age of 16 are responsible to ensure their child has a proper helmet and most importantly, wears it! As well, cellphones are not only dangerous distraction when driving, they are equally as dangerous when riding a bike! Please address this issue with your child.

Student Safety and Cars

24 Mar

We would once again like to ask our families to take care in our school parking lot and kiss and ride. There are rules that have been put in place for the safety of students, staff and families. They need to be followed!  Do not enter on the east side of the parking lot. It is clearly marked No Entry!!  To enter the parking area of the lot, you must enter only on the WEST side. If you are dropping off your child(ren), please only let them out on the passenger side as the driver’s side is a live lane in both the kiss and ride and parking lot.

Also to know, if you are parking on the street, please park the correct way on the street and DO NOT park where there is No Parking.
