25 May

Hello Parents and Guardians!

  1. NEXT WEEK IS BIKE TO SCHOOL WEEK! Let’s get rolling! Ride your Bike to School from May 28 to June 1, 2018! Riding your bike to school:
  • is fun!
  • gets you active!
  • reduces traffic congestion!
  • reduces your carbon footprint!

2. We are still hoping to get more pictures for our Brownridge Family Tree that is growing in the front foyer. Send your family photo in asap!

3. It is getting hot outside!  Warm weather brings with it enjoyable activities, but hot weather can also endanger our health because of heat stress. At Brownridge, we have a Hot Weather Action Plan that is implemented when the humidex reaches or exceeds 35 degrees Celsius.

The Hot Weather Action Plan includes:
Limit outdoor activities
Encourage the drinking of water for re-hydration
Keeping blinds, curtains closed in classrooms directly exposed to sunlight and turn off any unnecessary lights and Use of board approved fans in the classrooms to circulate air.

Parents are reminded to:
Send students to school with light clothing that adheres to our dress code.
Apply sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher)
Send students with a wide brimmed hat for outdoor recesses

Election on June 7- Polling Station at Brownridge PS.

24 May

We’d like to share with our community that our school will serve as a polling station for the upcoming Provincial Election on Thursday, June 7th, 2018.

We are pleased to host members of our community who will come to vote at our school.  It provides a great opportunity to discuss the democratic process with students. We would encourage you to talk to your children about the important role voting plays in our democratic society.

As we will have community members attending our school to vote, you may see increased traffic around the school, as well as reduced parking in the area. We will be doing everything possible to minimize disruptions. We appreciate your understanding.

Send in a Toonie to support the YMCA Kids Challenge…

22 May

On May 24th, more than 20,000 kids from across the GTA will take part in the YMCA Kids Challenge and walk to make a difference in their communities. Brownridge Public School will be participating in this worthwhile opportunity by walking in our neighbourhood.

The YMCA Kids Challenge is a fundraising event in support of the YMCA of Greater Toronto. The YMCA child care community comes together on May 24th to participate in walks and celebrate healthy living as well as philanthropy. Their goal this year is to raise $60,000 online and the remaining $190,000 in offline donations, totaling $250,000!

Funds raised will create more spaces for children and families at their health and fitness centres, child cares, camps and more. A card was sent home a couple of weeks ago asking each student to bring a toonie to school to support this worthy cause. If you have not done so already, we ask that you send in a toonie to support the YMCA Kids Challenge.YMCA_KidsChallenge_2_kids_logo
