Information About Parent-Teacher Interviews/Student-led Conferences

30 Oct

October 30, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Parent-Teacher Interviews/Student Led Conferences will be scheduled for after school on November 23 and for the morning of November 24 for students in SK to grade 8.

Brownridge PS. is pleased to announce that we will be using an online process through Edsby to manage our Parent-Teacher interviews and Student Led Conferences scheduling. Edsby is an intuitive, cloud-based platform that will allow families to easily reserve times to meet with their child’s teachers. YRDSB in partnership with Edsby have created a secure platform that protects the privacy of information for our YRDSB families. Many more Edsby features will be rolled out in months ahead.

Families will need to create an Edsby account to access the online appointment scheduler for their child’s teachers for Student Led Conferences. Only families who create an Edsby account prior to the schedule being opened on November 10 will have access. For help signing up for Parent-Teacher interviews, please visit

You will receive an email from York Region District School Board in the next two days with instructions on how to create an Edsby account. If you do not see the email, please check your junk mail folder to ensure you do not miss this opportunity.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact our main office.

Brownridge Bears Update

27 Oct

A reminder to parents/Guardians and students that Halloween is approaching. We ask that you please do not send in Halloween treats or food items for the entire class. Please pay close attention when packing lunches with Halloween treats. Remember to pack lunches that are healthy and nut free.

A friendly reminder that students celebrating this occasion in costume at Brownridge PS. must comply with the policy. Costume accessories including, but not limited to toy guns, knives, axes, swords, etc., are not in compliance with York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0. Masks will only be allowed to be worn at times when the teacher deems it appropriate.

Costumes should be respectful of others. For example, if something is representative of a person’s culture or religious beliefs, then it should not be worn as another person’s costume.

Students will continue to be engaged in curriculum related, meaningful activities during the day.

As we promote “try everything” as a way of thinking and believing at Brownridge, we encourage everyone to learn by failing. This is a huge change from the norm. Too often students are encouraged to “get it right,” or are praised for getting the correct answers. Modeling the importance of “getting it wrong” to make the learning more meaningful is an important step to help our students (and ourselves) deepen their learning and connecting their learning beyond the four walls of our school. How will you support and promote the message of “try everything”?

School Clubs at Brownridge

  • Our Rainbow Loom club meets once a week to make bracelets which they are selling at school events to help raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation. Students in grades 4-8 are working towards this truly amazing goal!
  • Our Eco club is starting on October 25 for students in 3-6. Students will support our school in making decisions that impact themselves and those around them.
  • Our Colouring Club for mindfulness for students in grade 1-6 will be starting in early November. What a great way to relax and be mindful.
  • Our Student Voice Club for students in grades 7 and 8 is working hard to prepare for assemblies, PLT’s, and more. They are capturing student voice with the intent of improving student well-being at Brownridge.

Equity and Data

Staff spent the morning of the PA Day examining a variety of data sources through an equity lens. We considered how our lived experiences impact our perceptions and biases. We also worked through developing equity goals based on the different data sets to support student achievement and well-being to inform our school improvement plan.

Congratulations to all of our Brownridge students who participated in Cross Country. They demonstrated perseverance, determination and athleticism. A special shout out to Artem, Dennis, Tural, Michael P. who earned the school a pennant based on their performance at Regionals. A special thanks to Ms. Dogon, Ms. Chickrie, and Mr. Hinds for coaching and supporting our students.
