Locked School Doors – Feb. 3 Implementation

21 Jan

Beginning February 3, all school doors, including the front doors, will be locked 15 minutes after the morning entry bell.  The doors will remain locked for the rest of the day.  Anyone arriving at the school after that time must buzz in and sign in at the main office. A more detailed communication will be emailed to all families, blogged and sent home in hard copy next week outlining specific protocol at Brownridge. To note, please consider sending lunch on a daily basis with your child in the morning to help to minimize unnecessary disruption in the office.

Measures will also be put in place for parents/guardians to buzz in and pick up students participating in before and after school programs. More detailed information will be provided from the YMCA.

Our school continues to be a safe place where parent and community member involvement is welcomed and encouraged. This additional step will enhance the measures we already have in place, and ensure that all visitors sign in at the main office upon arrival.

Icy Conditions and Safety

14 Jan

Due to the icy conditions of our tarmac and field, we will be keeping the students in for all recess periods until play surfaces are safe. We also ask that the field is not used by student and parent/guardian as a path to and from school. It is extremely icy! Our caretakers are working daily on ensuring the pathways around the perimeter of the school and entry door areas are addressed. We continue to do our best to keep our students safe. Please let the office know if you have any concerns.

Grade 1 French Immersion Information Session (for Sept 2014)

8 Jan

French Immersion Information Session @ Louis-Honore Frechette P.S.

Info Night:   January 16, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.

Registration:   January 17, 2014 (office opens 10:00 a.m.) to February 14, 2014

In order to streamline the registration process, parents or guardians of Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 in 2014, and wishing to enrol in the FI Program, can visit or call the school office and request an Office Index Card – short version.  The Office Index Card must be signed by the principal of the home school. Parents or guardians then take this form, along with one piece of identification showing their address to Louis-Honore Frechette P.S. to register between January 17 and February 14, 2014. This eliminates the need to provide duplicate enrollment information or to pre-register.

Cold Weather Alert and Indoor Recess

6 Jan

Please know that we monitor the weather on a daily basis in regards to students going outdoors for recess. We do take into account the wind chill factor. When the weather is from minus 20 degrees and colder,  students remain inside for recess. This will be the case over the next few days which are forcasted for extremely cold weather.

Please send your child appropriately dressed for the winter weather when the temperature allows for outdoor recess. Please also ensure that your child has indoor shoes.
