Primary Class Sizes in Ontario

2 Sep

We are pleased to welcome our new and returning families to Brownridge Public School for the 2013-2014 school year.

The Ministry of Education sets out various class requirements, such as primary class sizes (grade one through three) of 20 or fewer students and full day kindergarten class sizes of 30 or fewer students, led by partnerships between teachers and designated early childhood educators.  The staff of Brownridge P.S. have worked very hard to organize classes in order to comply with Ministry directives and to provide for the best interest of student learning in the building.  This has resulted in many combined classes in primary, junior and intermediate levels.

We have received many new registrations over the summer and it is also possible that students may not return to Brownridge P.S. who are currently on our class lists.  As a result, it may be necessary for school administration, in collaboration with teaching staff, to make class placement changes during the month of September and potentially reorganize many classes toward the end of the month to meet Ministry compliance requirements.  Please rest assured that we will take all possible steps to cause the least amount of disruption to our learning environment.  Because of these factors, however, we are unable to address parent requests for changes to their child’s class placement at the time.

During the first week of school, safety and supervision of all students is the priority of school staff including school administrators.  We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding during the first week, while routines are being established.
